Negril

Negril è una città in Giamaica.

Sulle mappe spagnole, il punto più occidentale dell'isola è stato identificato come Punta Negrilla designato. Nei secoli successivi i pirati attaccarono da lì le navi di passaggio.

Lo sviluppo è iniziato nel 1958. I canali di scolo furono disegnati attraverso la palude e fu costruita la strada per Montego Bay. L'edificio più grande dell'epoca era il ristorante Fisherman's Inn sulla rotonda. Alla fine della baia sabbiosa lunga 6 chilometri c'era un solo albergo. A metà strada si sono incontrati al Negril Sands Club. Poco dopo la rotonda c'erano ancora alcune case di proprietà della piantagione di zucchero WISCO, Frome, dove la direzione si incontrava di tanto in tanto e teneva feste aziendali. Sul lato della strada che guarda lontano dal mare, si estende il Gran Pantano, una zona paludosa inaccessibile di 2.400 ettari.

Gli abbandoni e gli hippy hanno portato Negril fuori dal suo sonno negli anni '70. Furono elaborati piani per drenare la palude e costruire una Las Vegas giamaicana. Per fortuna non sono stati trovati i donatori necessari e ora c'è una legge che vieta che le strutture sovrastano le palme. Tutto il terreno compreso tra la strada principale e il mare è stato invece suddiviso in lotti di circa 75 m di larghezza e nel 1977 è stato aperto il primo grande albergo. Ora ce ne sono così tanti che le forniture di elettricità e acqua regolarmente crollano. Verso la fine del millennio, il turismo si diffonde sempre più a nord. Anche Bloody Bay, cento anni fa, i balenieri svolgevano qui i loro affari sanguinosi, ora è completamente sviluppata e viene completamente costruita.

Poiché Negril ha poco entroterra e entroterra, la maggior parte della vita turistica si svolge sulla spiaggia tra il fiume Negril e la piccola isola di Booby Cay, dove un complesso turistico si trova accanto all'altro. Sulla West End Road a sud, dove la costa è rocciosa, ci sono meno hotel, ma più ristoranti e negozi che vendono asciugamani da bagno, magliette, sculture, dischi e souvenir. Famosi in tutto il mondo sono il Rick's Cafe, il Kaiser's Cafe e, vicino al faro, costruito nel 1894, l'LTU Bar. I prezzi a Negril sono molto diversi, più alti negli hotel sulla spiaggia che a West End Road; nei semplici edifici in stile giamaicano sul lato della strada lontano dal mare è più economico che nei bar e ristoranti con TV satellitare.

Per motivi tecnici, quando si descrive Negril, si fa una divisione tra il luogo stesso con la costa rocciosa a sud e la costa settentrionale Negril Beach, che inizia alla rotonda sul fiume Negril. Questa parte settentrionale è limitata all'area a destra ea sinistra della strada principale per Montego Bay, Norman Manley Boulevard. Di seguito, Norman Manley Boulevard viene sempre indicato come "N.M.B." indirizzato.

Due ristoranti a Negril sono da evidenziare come "must be" assoluti. Ristorante Cosmos su Seven Mile Beach è uno dei ristoranti più antichi sulla spiaggia. All'inizio, negli anni '70, c'era solo una grande capanna (ancora in piedi) e spogliatoi malandati. Oggi è diventato un ristorante chic sulla spiaggia con bar, con qualche piccola capanna aggiuntiva in cui si vendono souvenir e magliette, a prezzi molto buoni.

Molto meglio conosciuto oggi Rick's Cafe. Per anni le folle si sono radunate lì ogni sera per guardare il tramonto. All'ingresso, alla cassa, devi comprare i tuoi soldi (piccoli dischi di plastica rotondi) e usarli per pagare tutto. Le bevande hanno un prezzo unitario, uno, due o tre gettoni, quindi il personale non ha problemi a cambiare denaro e può servire le bevande più velocemente. Oltre al tramonto, c'è la seconda "sensazione" lì. A pochi metri dal bar c'è una piattaforma in cemento da cui i temerari si tuffano a circa 10 m in mare. Ogni salto è ovviamente riconosciuto e fotografato di conseguenza dal pubblico. Le scale di pietra poi conducono dall'acqua al livello del bar.

L'aeroporto di Negril è un piccolo aeroporto regionale. Si trova a tre miglia a nord della rotonda di Negril.

Negril è il luogo più occidentale dell'isola della Giamaica. Puoi arrivarci sulla strada nazionale ben sviluppata un 1 da Montego Bay, a metà del paese di Lucea (82 km). Allo stesso tempo si occupa di questo un 2 accessibile da Spanish Town via May Pen, Mandeville e Savanna-La-Mar.

  • Faro di South Negril. Una torre rotonda in cemento, alta 27 m, costruita nel 1894 da un'azienda francese. Sopra di esso è posizionato il vano lampada in metallo alto 4 m.
